North Grand Strand Shopping

The North Grand Strand Shopping scene is overflowing with a variety of outlet malls, chic shopping centers, fun gift shops, trendy boutiques and more.

Myrtle Beach Mall, 10177 N. Kings Highway, (843) 272-4040. Now you’re confused because you’ve heard Myrtle Beach Mall was demolished. And that is true. When this mall first opened it was called Briarcliffe and then it was renamed Colonial Mall. When the original Myrtle Beach Mall was demolished, new ownership at this mall seized the opportunity and salvaged the name. This mall contains less than half the shopping of the newer Coastal Grand Mall but it has a couple of the same anchors: Belk and Books-A-Million. The Bass Pro Shop is a major attraction and occupies an area equivalent to five football fields. Restaurants in the mall are Islamorada Fish Company and Ruby Tuesday.

Tanger Outlet Mall, Kings Road, 10835 Kings Road (U.S. 17), (843) 449-0491. Both Tanger Outlet Malls are well stocked with Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Liz Claiborne, Kenneth Cole, Coach, Timberland, Wilson’s Leather and Bass. At this mall but not at the other one you’ll find Anne Klein and Ann Taylor.

Arcadian Commons is right across the street, with Marshall’s, Ross Dress for Less, Kirkland’s Home and Fabric Showcase.

Barefoot Landing, 4898 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 272-8349. Shopping is only part of the allure of this sprawling complex on the Intracoastal Waterway that also encompasses dining and entertainment. Bridges across marshes and ponds lead to specialty and retail shops, and along the way you get to see shorebirds, turtles and the occasional alligator. In addition to toys, jewelry, souvenirs, and apparel you’ll also find steaks, seafood, pizza, hot dogs and ice cream. Some of the major attractions are House of Blues, Alabama Theatre, and Alligator Adventure. The Barefoot Carousel is a free ride for the kids, and during the summer season, you’ll get Monday night fireworks and sporadic special events such as classic car shows and motorcycle exhibitions.

Martin’s PGA Tour Superstore, 2310 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 272-6030. Everything of any conceivable use to a golfer can be found within this good-sized sporting goods outlet, a veritable smorgasbord of variety and selection.

North Myrtle Beach Flea Market, U.S. Highway 17 North, Little River, (843) 249-4701. A collection of 350 vendor stalls ranges from indoor to outdoor, some with walls and roofs, only a few with heating and air conditioning. Among the ever-changing inventory of merchandise, you will find fresh fruits and vegetables in season, making this a great stop to stock the refrigerator of your vacation rental. The market is open Friday through Sunday year-round.

Gator Hole Plaza, 491 Highway 17 North, North Myrtle Beach, has More Space Place, Cato, Coastal Christian Books, Dollar Tree, Home Depot, Millennium Computers, Office Depot, Party Maker, Sally Beauty Supply, Walmart and Wine Cellar.

Everything Under the Sun, 811 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 427-7426. Here’s another flea market that is heated, air-conditioned and open year round, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day of the week during the summer season, and Thursday through Sunday in the off-season. And it’s not really under the sun: there’s a roof and four walls.

Callahan’s of Calabash is north of the border, Highway 179 in the heart of Calabash NC, (800) 344-3816, down-home goods in a down-home atmosphere.

Cheap Charlie’s Fireworks, 1209 Highway 501, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 347-4990.

Chances Games, 1301 Highway 17 North, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 249-2572.

Willard’s Fireworks, 1401 Highway 17 North, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 249-2225.

Tomlinson’s Sales Company, 951 Highway 17 North, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 280-7278. This is a good old-fashioned department store with local and national merchandise in apparel, jewelry, toys and housewares.

South Seas Village, 7715 Woodland Drive, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 449-7740, is part of a family resort complex.

Alley’s Antiques, 1820 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 249-5111.

B&B Furniture & Antiques, 1615 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 361-0101.

Collectics, 1463 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 249-8824.

Cottage Antiques of Cherry Grove, 619 Sea Mountain Highway, (843) 249-7563.

Déjà vu, 4048 Main Street, North Myrtle Beach, (843) 249-9386.
