Dog Days
Dogs have a tougher time regulating their body temperature when they get hot. This means that even taking a walk can be brutal for them in extreme heat. If they get overheated or dehydrated, they can easily start seizing and their organs can shut down. If you are out walking with your dog and notice his balance starts to wobble or he just don’t seem to be able to keep up, then you need to stop and take a rest and cool down. Offer your pet lots of water and let them lie down. If they get overheated and can’t seem to recover, get them to a vet as soon as possible. It can often be too late by the time people realize just how hot their dog really is. Don’t let your dog reach that danger zone!
Remember that older dogs and puppies will struggle more and be more vulnerable to heat.
Pay especially close attention to breeds with short noses, like boxers and pugs. They generally don’t breathe as easy.
NEVER leave your pet in a hot car!! You wouldn’t leave your child in the car and you certainly wouldn’t want to sit in a hot car yourself, so please don’t do it to your pets! If they are in a hot car for more than a few minutes, the likelihood of them dying from heat stroke is very high. Don’t take chances!
We want you to come with your beloved furry family members and enjoy your Myrtle Beach vacation, but we also want to help you prepare for the potential hazards of a hot summer here at the beach. Bring lots of sunscreen, carry water with you everywhere and take frequent breaks by going indoors to cool off during the hottest part of the day. Stay safe and have fun!
