Common Sense Safety Tips For Your Myrtle Beach Vacation

Common Sense Safety Tips For Your Myrtle Beach Vacation

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 – by OVR Staff
You may have heard that the city of Myrtle Beach experienced some deadly crime this past weekend during Memorial Day events. Anywhere there is a vacation destination; there will be some level of crime. With this past weekend turning deadly here in Myrtle Beach during Atlantic Bike Fest (Black Bike Week), there has been a lot of media coverage and a very negative light has been cast over our wonderful town. Unfortunately, the events of Memorial Day weekend 2014 has left many people feeling angry, helpless and scared to come enjoy their vacation here in Myrtle Beach. We want to put your mind at ease and help you with some good common sense tips so you can feel good about bringing your family and making memories here as you are used to doing.

First of all, we want to make it clear that the deadly shootings that happened over the weekend were the result of isolated violent fights that broke out at several area motels. Due to the crowds that were here, the scene got out of hand quickly and the local law enforcement simply couldn’t respond in time. Our hearts go out to those who were affected by this senseless violence and we hope that you will not let these events prevent you from coming to enjoy your vacation here in Myrtle Beach. Our local law enforcement is among the best and they work tirelessly to help keep you and your family safe everyday!
Let’s look at some basic tips for staying safe during the crowded summer season here in Myrtle Beach.
1.Stay aware of your surroundings. This is just common sense. Always look around you and remain aware of what is happening. Stay in well lit areas and don’t venture out late at night alone.
2.Make sure you know where your children are at all times. Kids are naturally curious and can wander farther than they mean to. Set clear limits and have a meeting place that everyone knows about in case you get separated. Make sure they know how to call 911!
3.Don’t carry cash. While you might want to have a little cash on you for snacks, drinks, etc., it’s best to stick with your debit card, credit card or travelers checks. These can be traced in the even they are stolen and you’ll have a much better chance of recovering your money. Don’t carry more money than you absolutely need to at any one time.
4. Keep normal hours. Let’s face it—much of the crime that occurs happens late at night in the cover of darkness. You have a family, the best and safest place for you to be late at night is safe in your hotel or condo, sleeping. This goes for any place you vacation.
5.Get to know your surroundings. Memorize landmarks for finding your hotel and know where your local police station is located. If your hotel or condo has security guards on duty, introduce yourself and your kids and let them know of your plans so they can help keep an eye for your family.
These five tips are just basic common sense tips, but will help keep you on alert. Your family’s safety and enjoyment is our highest priority here at Oceanfront Vacations and we want you to keep coming back to Myrtle Beach year after year to make lots of wonderful memories! Please let us know how we can serve you better and with a little awareness and smart planning, you will enjoy a safe and happy vacation here in Myrtle Beach. Welcome home!
